STUDENT CONSERVATION CLUB FISRT MEETING A HUGE SUCCESS
The Student Conservation Club (SCC) of Schuylkill County held its kick-off meeting on Sunday October 2nd at 2:00pm at the Schuylkill Conservation District. The first meeting was a big success, attracting nine teenagers from throughout the county.Bri Rudinsky, club member, stated “I was excited and surprised to see such a great turnout…it was a big success.”
Students from five different school districts showed up for the meeting. Participants included Maria Whyne- Frackville, Mary O'Connor-Frackville, Jamie Brackman-Auburn, Bri Rudinsky-Auburn, Sierra Gladfelter-New Ringgold, Jewell Wilson-Auburn, Cheryl Jackowski-Williamstown, and Tyler Bettinger-Muir. Apart from watching clips from the county's latest Schuylkill River Outreach Team (SROT) videos, the group talked about future projects and activities, fundraising and publicity. Some of the projects that were discussed ranged from activities such as building bird boxes for Hawk Mountain Sanctuary to planting aquatic vegetation at some of the watershed improvement projects throughout the county. The groups came up with a list of several dozen possible projects.The next time the students meet will be to do a hands on habitat improvement project in November.
